A bird that burns to rise anew from its ashes in the end: that is the mythology of the phoenix. When something that was already thought lost unexpectedly appears in new splendor, then one expresses one’s amazement at the ‘resurrection’ with the phrase “Like a phoenix from the ashes”. If you want to be free, you have to learn to ‘fly’, figuratively speaking. The series of images ‘Flight Attempts of the Phoenix’ is a photographic analogy of the struggle to want to take off carefree, but all too often fail miserably due to the ‘gravitational forces’ of everyday life. Nevertheless: “Fly bird, fly – never stop practicing!” For the longed-for freedom that may then come true.
